Founded by the owners of an Oregon based timber company, Air Berlin USA began operation in April 1979 offering tour charters from Berlin to the Mediterranean. On October 22, 1980 it began flying scheduled charters from Berlin to Orlando. With the reunification of Germany, the airline was sold to German interests.
